Panto season is a welcome change to the daily travel of touring and the panto company are lovely. The dwarfs are constantly fun, naughty and charmingly bonkers. They make the most of their size and hide in as many dark places as possible to scare the s--- out of you when you walk past. The run is pretty close to selling out and as we have quite a few 10.30am performances it is nice to know we will be playing to lots of appreciative noise.
Toyah will be a guest on ITV1’s Daybreak on Thursday 1 December commenting on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. Then, as she steps into the role of the Wicked Queen in Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs at St Alban’s, catch her discussing the pantomime on ITV1’s This Morning on Friday 9 December.
Toyah will also host a brand new special three-hour programme, Toyah’s Vintage Christmas for satellite music station, Vintage TV. The programme, which includes Toyah introducing pop videos and clips and telling stories, will get its broadcast premiere on Thursday 8 December at 21.00. For details visit www.vintage.tv.
Toyah will then join R&B soul star Geno Washington and 80s teenage pop idol Paul Young as they take on Bucks Fizz's Jay Aston, Haircut 100's Nick Heyward and Slade's Dave Hill for Mike Read's Pop Quiz. The much loved 1980s quiz programme has been revived and revamped for a Christmas Special for Vintage TV. Broadcast details coming soon.

Who says over 50 is over the hill? A feel good comedy filmed on location in Belsize Park and Hampstead, The Power of Three reinvents the myth of middle age. Michelle, Olivia and Lizzie were best friends in university. A team. But that was 30 years ago. Each woman dreads an upcoming reunion at Michelle’s 50th birthday party in England. Life hasn’t gone exactly to plan: one failed marriage, an empty nest, stalled careers. Too late to start over? Not when they rediscover the bonds of friendship. And the women they once were – and could be - again. Fifty, fierce and fabulous: The best time of your life.

TOYAH KICKS OFF AUTUMN LEG OF ACCLAIMED 30th ANNIVERSARY TOUR 17 October 2011 »
Toyah kicked off the final leg of her autumn tour, From Sheep Farming To Anthem 2011 last week in Southampton to rave reviews. The hotly-anticipated concert tour sees Toyah perform a selection of material from her first three albums and a concentration of songs from her 1981 Platinum-selling album Anthem, which celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this year. This is a unique chance hear Toyah’s well-known hits alongside cherrypicked songs and dark quirky anthems – many of which not heard live since her early tours from the late 1970s and early 1980s.
In further celebration, the tour sees Toyah revisit the colourful and iconic imagery which became synonymous with her name, with original 1980s stage costumes making their first appearance live since the early 1980s. The striking Toyah visuals which she created, and which helped define the look of the 1980s, were an innovative forerunner of the styles and approaches adopted by the hitmakers of today including Lady GaGa and Gwen Stefani. Toyah has recently been cited as influencing or drawing comparisons with contemporary music acts Marina & The Diamonds and Florence & The Machine.
The concert tour won plaudits across the internet and social media when it premiered in London in June and has delighted audiences and fans throughout it’s summer route of club gigs, theatre dates and large festivals. Watch exclusive video footage here at the official tour page and check out the full dates on Toyah’s GIGS page.

THE HUMANS KICK OFF UK TOUR AFTER TAKING NYC BY STORM 01 October 2011 »
After 4-star album reviews, and standing ovations in New York, USA for their east Coast tour, Bill Rieflin, Toyah Willcox and Chris Wong hit the road in the UK for the SUGAR RUSH TOUR. The new material which will be heard live on this tour combines haunting soundscapes, edgy experiments and sweet melodies. Toyah has described Sugar Rush as the energy of original Toyah meets space punk crossed with American grunge. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden have recently let Bill Rieflin know that the band's debut album We Are The Humans as one of their favourite albums. A recent review also described the album as "that record we might have gotten if Tori Amos and Trent Reznor had ever come together for a full album."
The Humans live show has won critical acclaim and a standing ovation in New York on 27 Sept. The Humans now bring this tour to the UK with a chance to see the performances in intimate venues in the UK. For full box office ticket links click here or go to www.thehumansofficial.com

NEW YORK GIG REVIEW: “Songs like Fragment Pool and Pebble had a flow to it that drew you in and held your attention. Sea Of Size was one of the highlights of the set - a piece that drifted through the air and oozed a quiet sort of power. Wong, Rieflin, and the Igor with no last name created an interlocking tapestry for Toyah Willcox to glide over. Most impressive. Quicksilver and Telekinesis, both from the 1st Humans disc, were audio fairy tales for adults - bizarre little tales of life, slightly skewed. Twisted Soul led to the massively electric Put A Woman On The Moon, and the show ended with the caffeine rush of Demigod. The fun romp that was their cover of These Boots Are Made For Walkin' served as encore. An incredible evening! Bring this band back as soon as humanly possible!”
SUGAR RUSH ALBUM REVIEWS: "Sugar Rush is the group's second release, and it is a big one. This record sound like it could have escaped from the John Cale archives. With the attitude of Tori Amos' best work (but not the raw emotion), Toyah's voice lays over these compositions that sound almost like Trent Reznor on The Fragile."
"A hybrid of haunting and sweet, this album intrigues from start to finish. The Humans’ new 13-track album, Sugar Rush, is experimental, edgy in the simplest of ways, and nothing you can ready yourself for. It’s the musical equivalent of a drive through a part of town you’ve never seen, and just when you think you’ve got the area figured out, you pass a sign welcoming you to the nearby town with restaurants of a different vibe, and even the sky looks a bit different. But don’t consider driving back now, because you’re on a one-way and the scenery stays intriguing."
THE HUMANS DELIVER WORLDWIDE RELEASE OF SUGAR RUSH ALBUM 27 September 2011 »
THE HUMANS – Toyah Willcox, Bill Rieflin, Chris Wong - release their second full length album SUGAR RUSH on 27 September in USA/Canada on The End Records and in the rest of the world on 2 October on Toyah's own Vertical Species label. The 13-track album has already received critical acclaim, with a 4-star review proclaiming it "a hybrid of haunting and sweet, this album intrigues from start to finish".
Sugar Rush is available now in USA/Canada on physical CD and digital download and is available to rest of world on physical CD from www.burningshed.com(available to pre-order now) as well as at gigs on UK tour and digitally from Sunday 2 October 2011.
Both releases coincide with The Humans' Sugar Rush Tour which includes the band's American live debut with East Coast dates culminating in a headline gig at Highline Ballroom in New York City on 27 September.
They follow the US concerts with a seven-date UK tour which sees The Humans play Scotland and Wales for the first time alongside headline dates in London, Manchester and Sheffield. The Humans received a 4-star concert review for last year's debut London live date which Financial Times called "programmed beats, sinewy, rumbling rhythms…. a kind of twisted funk". Full tour dates and box office details for the Sugar Rush UK Tour can be found at www.thehumansofficial.com
The band has dedicated three years to establishing their sound, songs and performance. Crystallizing what is at the core of The Humans' manifesto, the album Sugar Rush bears a cinematic density with stirring moments of exhilarating energy (Sugar Rush) tender contemplation (Love In A Different Way) and brooding soundscapes (Sea Of Size). The album also features guest 'Human' Robert Fripp on all tracks. Sugar Rush sees further maturity in the band's material and a solid set of songs which are experimental yet accessible, grungy yet vocal-led and as delicate as they are unnerving.
The physical Sugar Rush CD album will be available to buy from all dates of the band's Sugar Rush UK Tour and to buy online from the Burning Shed webstore. Those buying the UK/Worldwide physical edition of the album (for the tour dates or from Burning Shed) will find a code inside the album which allows access to download three live tracks for free, all recorded at Scala London in February 2010.
The digital edition of the album will also be released worldwide (excluding USA/Canada) via iTunes, Amazon MP3, Play.com and all major digital music vendors from Sunday 2 October 2011. The Humans’ sophomore album Sugar Rush is released on Tuesday 27 September in USA/Canada on The End Records label. The album is garnering acclaim including Kelsey Valadez’s 4-star review which concludes Sugar Rush is “A hybrid of haunting and sweet, this album intrigues from start to finish.”.
ALBUM REVIEW The Humans’ new 13-track album, Sugar Rush, is experimental, edgy in the simplest of ways, and nothing you can ready yourself for. It’s the musical equivalent of a drive through a part of town you’ve never seen, and just when you think you’ve got the area figured out, you pass a sign welcoming you to the nearby town with restaurants of a different vibe, and even the sky looks a bit different. But don’t consider driving back now, because you’re on a one-way and the scenery stays intriguing.
The opening track “Titanium Girl”, is gritty, with even grittier lyrics. Things slow down a bit on the second track, and steadily picks back up through “Sea of Size”. A lot of the album has a deep, almost dark feel with primal drums that are never too complicated, and grungy guitars, with unforgiving vocals. But then the listener meets a track like “Put a Woman On the Moon”, which features fast synth sounds, sounding like the soundtrack to a sci-fi movie about robots and space. Continues...

Over in the parallel universe of music and film the shows have been going great guns. Oxford, Harrogate, Bromsgrove, Rewind, The Rock n’ Bike show and the Soho House screening of PO3 had a great reactions. We now have TOYAH shows being offered in Germany, Norway and USA. I have never enjoyed the “old music” so much. And memories are flooding back such as how quickly I had to write the lyrics. In most cases I had two hours to pen lyrics in the morning and record them the same afternoon, the pressure was unbelievable but I was too driven to have let something like “time pressure” get in my way. And as for the B-sides, they were written on the spot. A phone call would come in from the record company and they’d say we need three B-sides so off we’d go, into the studio and write the first thing that came into our heads. The B-sides where always fun because we could get away with anything without the record company saying …”but will it get airplay?”

I don't know if I am doing something really silly or really inspired?
But I certainly know what I am doing is hugely enjoyable and teaching me an awful lot about myself. What can this questionable action be? Wearing the original stage costumes from 1979 to 1984.
It kind of takes the term "VINTAGE" to a whole new level. Will catwalk models be doing the same next year with Dior, Channel, Katherine Hamnett and Westwood?
These costumes have sat in storage for 30 years. They deserve a new spark of life, another bite of the cherry and if I'm out there playing the music why not have the costumes too? It is rather nice to be groping around in the dark again doing quick changes. The last two shows have had a form, a charisma and a vibe that has to be down to the fact that the costumes and music have truly embraced the era.
AND I love that the show is truly retrograde. We start at year 1981 with quite grounded theatrical songs and regress towards the punk era, with the show building in intensity and sheer exuberance, back to the music of 1978! It feels quite odd exiting stage for a quick change, six in all, but the entry back always gets a huge WOW from the audience and even on my own I've got the changes down to 30 seconds.
TOYAH BEGINS TOUR WITH COLOURFUL LEICESTER SQUARE THEATRE SHOW 19 June 2011 »
Toyah wowed spectators on Friday night at London's Leicester Square Theatre with a very special concert which kickstarted the year-long From Sheep Farming To Anthem Tour. The hotly-anticipated gig saw Toyah hit the London stage with a selection of material from her first three albums and a concentration of songs from her 1981 Platinum-selling album Anthem, which celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this summer. Not only did Toyah and her full live band perform songs either not heard live for over 25 years but some songs never played live previously. The concert was also a true celebration of thirty years of images as for the first time since the early 1980s, Toyah performed with full hair, make-up and wore the original, innovative stage costumes. The Toyah look was given a 21st century re-working by coupling the vintage costumes with brand new headresses and hair-pieces created specially for the show by Sean Chapman.
The concert has won plaudits across the internet and social media all weekend with reviews, photos and videos circulating praising the colourful performance. For a selection of official photographs by Chris Jepson, visit the From Sheep Farming to Anthem Tour page. The hotly-anticipated tour will see Toyah, and her full live band, perform the dark, quirky anthems and cult classics which put her at number one in the indie charts for the chart’s first twelve months. Toyah was then a constant in the top 10 for the following three years before her breakthrough single "It's A Mystery" went to number four in the mainstream chart. Her first three albums have been cited as the beginnings of Goth. Anthem also won the finest accolade of being broadcast live from Drury Lane Theatre Royal as an "Old Grey Whistle Test" special on Christmas Eve 1981 for the BBC, attracting 12 million viewers.
The nationwide UK tour includes a chance to hear the well-known hits (Thunder In The Mountains and Good Morning Universe) alongside cherrypicked songs (debut single Victims of The Riddle and Neon Womb) not heard live since Toyah's early tours from the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The Leicester Square concert date will also see Toyah revisit the colourful and iconic imagery which became synonymous with her name, with original 1980s costumes. There will also be a 21st century re-working of the renowned hair and make-up which Toyah became recognized for and which helped define the look of the 1980s. The striking Toyah visuals which she created were an innovative forerunner of the styles and approaches adopted by the hitmakers of today including Lady GaGa and Gwen Stefani. Toyah has recently been cited as influencing or drawing comparisons with contemporary music acts Marina & The Diamonds, Andi Fraggs and Florence & The Machine.
